Natalie contacted my through my Etsy shop she loved my colored pencil rolls and wanted a version that could hold a bunch of make-up brushes. Since I didn’t have the make-up brushes in hand I decided I should use elastic in the pockets to make sure they all fit.
I’ve never actually sewn with elastic. Am I nuts? Sometimes. Aren’t we all. Did you know it’s a pain? Well, it is. All of that stretching. It doesn’t help that I don’t have a knee lift or needle down setting on my machine, those would have helped.
I had no idea how to judge the elastic to fabric ratio so I kinda did a little educated guessing. As a result, the first one or two the elastic was a tad smaller than it should be. So, they don’t really totally flat. I hope Natalie doesn’t mind a couple that are less than perfect.
I have to say the last ones really turned out great. I love the fabrics she choose. She picked the background fabrics and let me have free rein on the pocket fabrics. I secretly wanted to keep a few of them for myself.
Like this one.
And this one.
Oh, and this one.
I hope Natalie’s friends love their thoughtful holiday gifts. Lucky girls if I do say so myself!
I sent this cute little ornament away with the make-up rolls just for Natalie. These are a fun hand sewn project that I like to take on car rides with me.
After all of those make-up brush rolls I whipped up these two goodies.
A friend of mine asked me to make a graffiti themed roll for markers. They are a gift for a boy who loves the ART of graffiti. Don’t worry, he won’t be defacing property with this in his hand. He is a strictly paper kind of kid.
This round I added elastic closure because the way I figure, boys aren’t much for ribbons.
I decided he also needed a pencil/pen roll, maybe to take to school. I think they are super cool.
After all of these beauties I think I’m pretty confident with elastic.
More roll-y photos in my flickr photostream. 🙂
ps I won a giveaway!! I am beyond excited and I can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned!
